I had a great weekend. Spent Friday at the Texas State Jr. Hereford Show. Caught up with some old friends, made a few new ones, and got to hang out with the cows (my favorite part...it was cheaper than seeing a shrink).
It was Fun In The Sun on Saturday at the Texas Reds Festival--a celebration of steak and wine! Tried most of the wine and missed the steak. I'm okay with that...I really enjoy the steak that I am capable of at home--Nebraska Beef and Cavender's Greek Seasoning--mmmmm delicious! It was VERY, VERY hot that afternoon, but Brandi and I persevered.
I've had in my possession a Wine for Dummies book. I've made it through a chapter or two, and I've set it aside for one reason or another. I think I need to get it back out. I went through the tasting on Saturday with this attitude "Fern, do you like it?" I answered "yes" to some, "mmm, okay" to many, and "tastes like tank water" to one that I can remember.
The Los Pinos wines (Sweet Rodeo Red and Pinky Tuscandero--the 2 I tried) were 1) tasty, 2) had adorable names and labels (because that is sooo important), and 3) were affordable (around $15...I have this random philosophy of choosing wines between $9 and $16...although I'm not ashamed to say I've found one that's alright at HEB for $6.95--judge me, I don't care!). The Landon Winery had a Super Texan that was amazing! Unfortunately, it won't be in my personal home selection anytime soon at $49.95. However, their Yellow Rose is $12.99. It's a fun white that the girls and I really liked. Inwood had a Tempranillo-Cabernet that was very good, and like the Landon Super Texas won't be in my collection anytime soon.
It was a unique experience. I had never been to anything like it before, and I would certainly go back. I wish that I had investigated the event website more. I would have loved to watched some of the cooking demonstrations!
Sunday. Newt and I hung out in our little house all by our little selves, and it was spectacular. We got caught up around the house, and I had several "revelations", if you will.
I also have several thoughts on activists groups this morning, but that deserves its own post!
Be sure to check out the Pioneer Woman's site, if you haven't found it yet. It's amazing. She posts great recipes. I've tried a few, and so far, they have all be tasty and have earned me a compliment or two. Her daily posts are fun, but of course I would think that--most focus around ranch life. She has giveaways! Brandi and I try nearly every week to win something. We have yet to win anything. She's also written the story of how she and her husband met and fell in love. I've read all but the last chapter. I keep telling myself that I'll set aside some time to sit down with a good cup of coffee or glass of wine for the final chapter (so far) of Black Heels to Tractor Wheels.
Back to analyzing, tabling, writing, and hoping for a home, a job, and Peace on Earth.

- I want to go to Ireland
- I want to see Greece
- NYC is calling my name
- Why is it that when people fall asleep and wake up on TV and in the movies that they don't ever look truly disheveled? And, why is it that none of them sleep in T-shirts and boxer shorts like most normal people I know?
- I love the movie PS I Love You and its soundtrack (I happen to own both)
