Hello Thursday...

This is what I woke up to this morning.

Maybe before I explain, I should set the stage. Saturday, I went on a trip to the nursery, to Walmart, etc. Sunday, I worked in the yard...planting the results of Saturday's trip, painting lawn chairs, raking out the carport, and so on. I placed 2 large identical pots in either corner of my front yard. There is a pipe fence around my house with a top rail that is hip high on me and another rail about 2 feet below that. Surrounding my house and it's little fence is a pasture and the rest of ranch headquarters where cows "free range". I had set the pots in from the corners to prevent bovine snacking; however, as you can see by the bottom photo, not far enough.

As I was making coffee this morning, I looked out the window to see it all go down. Out the back door I ran to assess the carnage and attempt to salvage what was left and/or save the matching pot. The top photo is of the mate in the opposite corner of the yard that survived the morning unscathed. The bottom photos is of the carnage I ran out to find in PJ's, bed head, and flip flops. Be thankful you are not my neighbor.

**I apologize for the non-matching filters from Instagram. I couldn't retain the name long enough in my busy little memory.**

King Ranch Chicken and Buttermilk Pie

I know that my goals over there read, blog at least 2x per week...still can't cross that one off of my list. Nor, can I cross off don't eat out for a week--eating is such a social activity. Maybe if I wasn't so social AND like eating so much, the number inside my jeans would be much smaller...that and beer is also a social activity...and I like beer and I am social...ANYWAY... My dear friend Brandi asked for pie baking lessons. We arranged an evening to make said pie. Flavor: Buttermilk. She did very well. We made crust from scratch, and she rolled it out herself. Although, she did get to use the Cuisinart to do the crust. I really wanted to make her use a fork or a pastry blender thingy. She wasn't so much a fan of scooping the lard, but ooooo lard makes such lovely crust. Prior to pie baking she asked for a list of ingredients. I said lard...blah, blah... and she said, Crisco? And, I said no...LARD. Lard makes such amazing crust, but that's another day....

'80s Ladies

I apologize for my absence, but we'll cover that later. On a recent road trip (day trip), for work, I made a little list in my head, let's see if I can recall the jist of it all. I worked up a list of things that we should all have in our memory books, and on my list, thanks to my iPod, I have the '80s ladies. No, not the great friends from the dorm and I that re-worked the K.T. Oslin's hit from the '80s. That is definitely another story for another time. As I was cruising across the Lone Star State in my Gold Lincoln Town Car on Friday of last week, I spent a lot of time being thankful that it was a solo mission---I did a lot of singing and dancing in that car that day. Some of the favorite stops made by my iPod were on the Ladies of the 80s. Let me just share with you right now that my musical stylings were utterly amazing and a force to be reckoned with, not to mention the moves that accompanied them. Tell me, who doesn't know their way through ...
